Once Human Beastmaster Build

Beast Riding is the 2026 Beastmaster identity. Pick the mount, pick the saddle, and let the animal do the positioning work.

Beastmaster Build

The Beastmaster build for September 2026 is built around Beast Riding — the major class overhaul arriving 16 September PT. Rather than managing multiple summoned pets, a Beastmaster in 2026 rides one adult animal, uses its mount abilities in combat, and farms Energy through the simplified ranching system. This page is the loadout for that version of the class. If you are reading this before 16 September, treat the Beast Riding mechanics as the direction even if the specific numbers are not yet live.

The Beastmaster is still a class that improves Deviant capture rates, combat pet mood, and summoning efficiency. Beast Riding adds a mobility and positioning layer on top of those existing strengths.

Core philosophy

Beastmaster in 2026 is not a pet army. It is a mounted combat class where the animal is a weapon platform, a damage amplifier, and a survivability tool simultaneously. The build focuses on:

  • Maximizing the active ability of your chosen mount
  • Keeping the animal above 80% Energy for peak performance
  • Pairing the mount’s passive bonuses with a compatible weapon tag

Mount selection

MountBest forActive ability use case
DeerShrapnel and Bounce players who want speedGallop repositions during Prime War, keeps rider at maximum weapon and status damage from passive
BoarSurvivability in high-damage encountersCharge absorbs hits and stacks rider damage reduction; works in both PvE and PvP
BearFrost Vortex and burst buildsShockwave hits apply and stack rider weapon/status damage for every enemy struck
Wild BuffaloBase-focused players who ranch while exploringAuto-harvest plus milk chance; best for players split between ranching and combat

For most players, Bear is the default recommendation because the shockwave active applies the rider’s weapon and status damage to every target hit — meaning a Frost Vortex build gets multiple Vortex stacks in one press of Ctrl.

Deer build

Mount: Deer with Stamina Saddle (max Stamina for sustained gallop)

Play style: Open-world farming, Prime War repositioning, high-mobility content. The Deer passive means your weapon and status damage scale with movement speed — which Deer maximizes.

Weapon pairing: Bounce Compound Bow or Shrapnel SOCR. Both tags benefit from the speed-based passive. Deer does not add flat damage; it multiplies what you already have.

Deviant: Festering Gel for survivability. The Deer is your mobility; Gel is your safety net.

Attributes to prioritize on the Deer: Nimble and Swift (movement speed and jump height). Stamina on the mount itself.

Boar build

Mount: Boar with Recovering Saddle (HP regen outside combat keeps the mount alive)

Play style: Aggressive push, raid encounters, PvP when you need to absorb initial burst. The charge ability stacks damage reduction per enemy hit — in a group of three enemies, the rider takes significantly less damage.

Weapon pairing: Any sustained DPS tag. Boar does not amplify damage directly; it keeps you alive so your weapon output continues.

Deviant: Mini Wonder or taunt Deviant to hold enemy attention while the Boar charges through.

Attributes to prioritize on the Boar: Healing Pelt (HP recovery out of combat) and Thick Fur (damage reduction per hit).

Bear build

Mount: Bear with Reinforced Saddle (maximum attack while mounted)

Play style: Boss encounters, Prime War, and any content where the shockwave can hit multiple targets. Each enemy hit by the shockwave increases rider weapon and status damage — on a packed Prime War boss, this stacks fast.

Weapon pairing: Frost Vortex (KAM Abyss Glance or SKS-Pathfinder). Every shockwave hit applies Vortex status and stacks the rider damage multiplier. Aftermath (shockwave range) on the Bear extends the hit zone.

Deviant: Festering Gel for survival, or Butterfly’s Emissary if you are running a Shrapnel tag and want the butterfly to apply weak-spot pressure while the Bear shockwave amplifies your main damage.

Attributes to prioritize on the Bear: Aftermath (shockwave range) and Attack Boost.

Wild Buffalo build

Mount: Wild Buffalo with Recovering Saddle or Stamina Saddle depending on whether you need HP regen or crop-eating speed.

Play style: Split-focus players who want ranching output while maintaining combat capability. The auto-harvest passive eliminates the dismount-to-gather downtime.

Weapon pairing: Any. Wild Buffalo is the least combat-optimized mount and the most ranching-optimized.

Deviant: Growshroom for base production, or Digby Boy for ore farming if you are running a hive base.

Ranching setup for Beastmasters

After the 16 September patch, ranching uses Energy only. Keep all breeding animals above 80% Energy for maximum output. Feeding mixed foods (meat, grains, or herbs) all restore Energy now — no more separate Hydration management.

Key ranching targets for a Beastmaster:

  • Adult Deer, Boar, Bear, Wild Buffalo at 80–100% Energy for riding
  • Growshroom and Digby Boy at high Energy for base production (they are not rideable but benefit from the same ranching efficiency)
  • Breeding pairs at 80–100% Energy for the Fertile Constitution milk chance on Wild Buffalo

Cradle setup

  • Light weapon mastery / distant weapon mastery
  • Deviant emergency defense
  • Shield protection
  • Beast Riding stamina reduction (if available after the patch)

Food and consumables

  • Canned Steak Combo for weapon damage before Prime War
  • Orange Soda for crit rate
  • Clean water to avoid thirst debuffs during long mount sessions
  • Carry Stamina food if you are running bareback Deer frequently

September 16 patch checklist

  1. Feed all adult animals above 20% Energy before the update drops
  2. Choose your starter mount (Deer, Boar, or Bear) before server queues form
  3. Craft the new unified Beast Whistle recipe
  4. Check the Blueprint Shop for any Beast Riding-related items you want pre-patched
  5. Review your ranching animals — any below 20% Energy will not be summonable after the update

FAQ

What mount works best with Frost Vortex? Bear. Every shockwave hit stacks the rider’s weapon and status damage, and Aftermath extends the shockwave range so more enemies are hit per cast.

Is Beastmaster still worth it if I skip Beast Riding? The capture rate and pet mood bonuses still apply to non-mounted combat pets. Beast Riding enhances the class but does not invalidate its original strengths.

Which saddle for Deer? Stamina Saddle. Deer is about sustained movement speed; the Stamina Saddle keeps the mount from running out of gas during long repositioning.

Can I use Beast Riding in PvP? Yes. The Bear shockwave is particularly effective in Prismverse’s Clash — a well-timed Ctrl can hit multiple enemy players and stack your damage.

What happens to my existing ranched animals after the patch? They keep their current level and trait progress. Energy is converted from the old Tameness/Energy/Hydration system; Tameness is removed and the other two gauges are simplified into the single Energy tier.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Once Human questions.

What mount pairs best with Frost Vortex?

Bear. Every shockwave hit stacks rider weapon and status damage. Aftermath extends the hit zone for more Vortex applications.

Should I pick Deer, Boar, or Bear as my starter mount?

Bear is the safest default for combat. Deer is better for mobility-focused builds. Boar is for maximum survivability.

Can Beast Riding be used in PvP scenarios?

Yes. The Bear shockwave is particularly effective in Prismverse and RaidZone against grouped players.

What saddle should I put on my Deer?

Stamina Saddle. Deer excels at sustained repositioning; the Stamina Saddle prevents the mount from running out during long movements.

Do existing ranched animals lose progress after the 16 September patch?

No. Animals retain their level and trait progress. Energy converts from the old three-gauge system; Tameness is removed.
