Once Human Isles of Abyss
The October 2026 ocean expansion — ships, five sea regions, and a living abyss.
Isles of Abyss is Once Human’s largest content drop since launch: an ocean expansion scheduled for October 2026 on PC, mobile, and console together. It was previewed around the Gamescom 2026 console launch. This page is what Starry Studio has actually described. It is an expansion, not a rewrite of Manibus, and it is not an excuse to sit in the menu until October — keep starring a build now.
Avoid the phrase “the game launches in October.” Once Human already launched. Abyss is the next map layer.
What was announced
- Five ocean regions plus underwater exploration. Ruins, wrecks, and rare resources under the surface.
- A living ocean themed around an entity called the Sunken Lord.
- A survival loop that starts on a wooden raft and upgrades through vehicles into a mobile maritime sanctuary (a sea fortress, not a second Territory Core with a sail sticker).
- Threats named in previews: watchtowers, ghost ships, mechanical beasts, and large sea encounters.
- Pioneer testing for first-person mode and Isles of the Abyss ran through mid-2026 (version 2.4.2 era). A final confidential test for about 4,000 North American Metas (2,500 PC, 1,500 console) was scheduled 16 September 2026, 9:00 PM PT through 8 October 2026, 3:00 AM PT, with an NDA. Applications closed 4 September. The test map is a scattered island cluster with ships, underwater resources, and an 8-player Legion dungeon aimed at the Sunken Lord — not a Nalcott reskin.
Building at sea is the pitch. The same Memetic brain that powers a Nalcott core will need pipe-and-power discipline on a moving platform. Expect new materials and probably new Deviants (Brave George, Sea Rabbit, and Morphic Tree were already in the 2026 pet pipeline on land — ocean pets will follow).
How it sits next to scenarios
Abyss is described as a content expansion across platforms, not as “delete Manibus.” You will still pick a scenario for the seasonal ruleset. Treat ocean regions like Way of Winter treated temperature: a new survival knife on top of the gun you already star.
Visional Wheel Season 5 (sound-focused, November 2026 in some timelines) is a separate seasonal overlay. Do not mix the two trailers into one patch in your head.
What not to do before it ships
- Do not dump a month of Starchrom into an unannounced “boat gun” that is not in the weapon tier list.
- Do not delay codes because “the ocean might reset them.” Codes expire on their own clock.
- Do not skip housing Digby Boy. Ore still funds ammo when you have a raft.
- Do not assume PvP RaidZone is the ocean map. It is not.
Practical prep that actually transfers
- One six-star PvE tag — Shrapnel or Bounce.
- A Territory Core you can rebuild from memory (base building).
- Sanity habits (survival) because underwater horror is still a pollution fantasy.
- SSD space. Console patches were already huge in September 2026.
When the October patch notes publish real numbers (map names, Memetics, whether cores float), this page should be read against the patch notes article, not against a cinematic. Until those notes exist, the trailer math is: boats, abyss, Sunken Lord, all platforms, October 2026.
Play Nalcott this week. The ocean will still be wet in October.
What a living ocean likely means in practice
Starry’s language around the Sunken Lord and a living sea is horror-survival, not a racing DLC. Expect:
- Pollution / Sanity pressure underwater the same way Red Sands pressures thirst. Pack the survival habits, not a new personality.
- Vehicle Memetics that eat the same point budget as a second floor on your land core. Do not skip pumps on land to save points for the raft.
- Encounters that want a group. Prime War already taught that lesson. Solo is possible; slow is guaranteed if you under-gear.
- Loot that looks like boat cosmetics in the trailer and plays like materials in the patch. Wait for the item names.
If you enjoy base building, Abyss is the excuse to learn compact power loops. A sea fortress with no generator is a very expensive raft.

Console launch if you arrived in August. Patch 3.0.5 for the crate-search quality of life you will want when boat chests pile up. Scenarios so you do not confuse a Visional Wheel trailer with the ocean map. Then go run a silo. The abyss is not a pause button.
