The September 2026 Frost rifle: guaranteed Vortex on hit with a cooldown that each shot reduces.
The SKS Pathfinder arrived with the 24 September 2026 update as the new guaranteed-Frost-Vortex sniper rifle. Each hit applies Frost Vortex status and reduces the cooldown — meaning sustained fire keeps the freeze rolling instead of waiting for a proc. If you already main KAM Abyss Glance and aim well, this is the natural upgrade. If you are still on Shrapnel, finish that star first.

Why Pathfinder over KAM
KAM Abyss Glance needs crit luck to keep Frost rolling. The Pathfinder is guaranteed on every hit and self-sustains the cooldown. At equal star counts, the Pathfinder wins the “status uptime” race by design.
What it is not: a direct upgrade to a six-star SOCR Last Valor for general PvE. Frost Vortex is still a side-grade tag. Use the Frost Vortex page if you want the full picture.
Gun and attachments
SKS Pathfinder. Guaranteed Frost Vortex on hit. Cooldown starts long; each hit pushes it shorter. Sustained fire pattern rewards accuracy over spray.
Attachments. Large brake for recoil control, tactical laser for accuracy under pressure, extended rifle mag (Frost builds eat ammo to keep the status rolling), reflex or ACOG scope for the mid-range role.
Armor and calibration
Armor. Heavy Duty set. Elemental / status mods: Secluded Strike, Thunderclap, Elemental Overload. Same set you would run on KAM Abyss Glance — the tag did not change.
Calibration. Frost / status / cooldown reduction lines. Do not socket Shrapnel-named mods; they do not feed this tag.
Cradle. Light weapon mastery, distant weapon mastery, deviant emergency defense, shield protection — or whatever your Frost Vortex creator guide uses.
Deviant and food
Deviant. Festering Gel is still the survival pick. Mini Wonder or a taunt Deviant if you are running PvP content. Butterfly’s Emissary does not synergize with the Frost tag the way it does with Shrapnel.
Food. Elemental / weapon-damage cooks. Stardust mushroom soup and deviant drinks when the build calls for them. Clean water so the buffs are not fighting a thirst debuff.
Secondary weapon
The Pathfinder is a mid-range sustained-frost rifle. Pair it with:
- Recurve Crossbow for Spreading Marks (helps the Vortex chain in groups).
- DE.50 Jaws for burst windows when the target needs to die faster than the cooldown allows.
- Bounce Compound Bow if you want a true second main and two tagging families.
PvP considerations
Frost Vortex wins close-to-mid peek fights. It still loses a long-range rifle duel to AWS.338 Bullseye with Hunter’s Perk. Bring the sniper swap if your Prismverse night is ridgelines and long angles.
RaidZone portable crafting (3.0.5) means you can recraft ammo without running back to town — useful for Frost builds that eat rounds keeping the status up.
Spend order
New account: Shrapnel or Bounce first. This is a second family or an upgrade from KAM after you already have a main. Returning account with a Frost tag already starred: Pathfinder is the natural next pull from the Wish Machine.
Star one platform. Keep Gel. Read the live tooltip the night of 24 September before you commit fragments.
